I'd just like to add my 2 cents. (uh oh). 2 points.
1. There is a disturbing trend in game design, not just MMO's but every game that is released today. That is, create an insane amount of hype for your new game/patch/expansion, set a release date before you've even started developing your game/patch/expansion. Now, do whatever it takes to get the game out by the release date. *BUZZER* WRONG!
I would much rather have a polished and BETA TESTED game (What happened to massive beta tests?) than have it be released on time. Now of course you don't want to fall into the Duke Nukem Forever vortex "WHEN IT'S DONE" and end up with a game released in 2142. However, I don't think it's unreasonable to change your release date based on the fact that you still have 500 of the 2000 bugs you or your beta test community found unfixed. (I'm looking at you obsidion)
2. In reguards to what CCP did wrong in this patch and what dissapointed me was not the contracts, or the invention or the wrecks, it was the fact that there were show stopping bugs on the test server. They knew full well that the bugs existed, but they did not fix them. That's negligence imo, it's like leaving your unattended child on top of the kitchen table. It seems with every patch that CCP has come out with their negligence has increased. Many hotfixes well after the patch has been released to fix things that were posted by bug hunters or in the test server forum threads.
Wait, I know what you're going to say next "Well you don't give examples of show stopping bugs!!" How bout the camera is royally screwed up, if you scroll out into map mode it's very difficult to get the camera back in. The camera is laggy, if you hit reset, it does this epic zoom out off of the focus and back onto you, which is rather slow. And for gods sake, don't press the ctrl key when using the camera. I saw posts in the test server threads about these issues and they were never fixed. Drones got broken AGAIN after this patch. I mean seriously, is it tradition for them to break drones on every patch?
All I'm saying is, for chrissakes, listen to your community, test your games, and if your buglist != close to 0 CHANGE THE RELEASE DATE.
